Paris Saint-Germain Chairman Charles Villeneuve has unleashed a bombshell after admitting that it is his intention to sign AC Milan star Alessandro Nesta.
PSG have been something of a sleeping giant in recent years, but new Chairman Charles Villeneuve has signalled his intention to roll back the glory days.
The French giants have already signed former Les Bleus stars Claude Makelele and Ludovic Giuly this summer, while Lilian Thuram was only prevented a move to the Parc des Princes after the detection of a heart condition.
Villeneuve is now setting his signs on some top-class targets abroad and, in a stunning declaration, he admitted that it is his plan to sign Milan star Alessandro Nesta next summer.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Milan are likely to go into the market and buy another defender following an injury blow to Alessandro Nesta.
Centre back Nesta has endured a rather injury prone career, all dating back to a serious problem he picked up during the 1998 World Cup in France.
His niggling and chronic injuries, particularly around the groin and back area, eventually led him to retire from international football in 2007. Having played no internationals, the 32-year-old’s fitness has improved, however he still missed around a quarter of last season.
During pre-season training, Nesta’s back problems have resurfaced, and this is proving a cause of concern for the Milan technical team. As a result, the Rossoneri are almost certain to go into the market and sign another centre back as cover for the new season.
