PSG have been something of a sleeping giant in recent years, but new Chairman Charles Villeneuve has signalled his intention to roll back the glory days. The French giants have already signed former Les Bleus stars Claude Makelele and Ludovic Giuly this summer, while Lilian Thuram was only prevented a move to the Parc des Princes after the detection of a heart condition.
Villeneuve is now setting his signs on some top-class targets abroad and, in a stunning declaration, he admitted that it is his plan to sign Milan star Alessandro Nesta next summer.
"This year is still early,” Villeneuve told ANSA.
“But next year we will try to bring a great Italian player to Paris Saint-Germain.
“Who? I love the Italian model of defence, the libero. Alessandro Nesta is the player who I dream of seeing in Paris."
The 32-year-old Nesta has had a stunning career to date, and has undoubtedly been one of the best defenders in the world over the past decade.
He has been at Milan since signing from hometown club Lazio in 2002, but he has struggled with injuries in recent years.
In total, the stopper has won two Scudetti, one Champions League, a European Cup Winners’ Cup, a Intercontinental Crown, and a World Cup, among a host of other honours for Lazio, Milan and Italy.
