With injuries galore in their creaking backline, the Rossoneri are set to make a January move for the Italy national team captain… Andriy Shevchenko, Kaka, Ronaldinho – these are the three Ballon d’Or winners already at Milanello. Soon though there could be a fourth, if a report in the Corriere dello Sport can be believed. The Rossoneri have had problems in defence all season. Star stopper Alessandro Nesta has not played this term due to injury, Paolo Maldini is 40 and needs regular rest, while the rest of the backline has largely failed to impress. With recent signing Thiago Silva ineligible until next season, the Corriere claims that Milan are looking to bring in Italy national team captain and legend Fabio Cannavaro next month. Cannavaro has been at Real Madrid since joining from Juventus in the aftermath of the Calciopoli crisis in 2006, but his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu runs out at the end of the season. So far there has been no talk of a new deal, and a summer exit looks on the cards. However, Milan are set to make a move sooner in order to bring the 35-year-old back to his homeland. Cannavaro would surely be an excellent short-term option for Milan if he did join, as he proved during Madrid’s recent 2-0 defeat at Barcelona that he is still in tip-top form, as he was arguably his side’s best player at Camp Nou.
