The former Lazio stalwart has yet to play a competitive match this season for the Rossoneri as he keeps struggling with a back problem. He made a brief appearance in a charity friendly in Albania on October 14 and seemed on track to return to action, but the pain has flared up again and it is still unclear as to when Carlo Ancelotti will be able to count on the strong defender.
The ex-Azzurri man has now returned to Florida, where he has a holiday home, to continue his recovery process.
But in spite of all his fitness issues, Alessandro still keeps drawing interest from other sides, as OM President Pape Diouf has hinted.
“Our back-line is good, but nothing prevents us from strengthening it,” he is quoted as saying in Tuttosport. “[Daniel] Van Buyten? Why not Nesta or even Fabio Cannavaro?”
The 33-year-old was already linked with a French outfit this summer when Paris Saint Germain were said to be keeping tabs on him, but it is not unlikely that he could retire at the end of this season, should he fail to shake off his recurring injury problems.
